Dwight “Doug” Sebastian, 74, of Brighton and formerly of Bethalto, Illinois passed away at 2:45 a.m. on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton, Illinois.  He was born November 3, 1943 in Cottage Hills, a son of the late John and Sadie (Welch) Sebastian.  He married Rosemary “Rose” Strowmatt on September 25, 1964 in Edwardsville and she survives.  He retired from Olin Corporation in East Alton after 38 years of dedicated service as a laborer.  He enjoyed his days of fishing and loved his many vacations to Minnesota.  He was an avid fan of high school basketball and cherished attending the Civic Memorial basketball games.  He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.  In addition to his beloved wife of over 53 years, he is survived by a mother-in-law, Verna Strowmatt of Cottage Hills; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Millie Sebastian of Jerseyville, Glenna and Roy Walsh of Kane, Regina and Paul Walters of Alton; Marian of Cottage Hills; many special nieces and nephews, Catrina and Bill Fronick of St. Louis, Kent Strowmatt of Alton, Nick and Ellen Walters of Wood River, Lori and Craig Thurston of Jerseyville, Kelly and Bob Manns of Jerseyville, Amanda Walters of Missouri, Randy Taake of Jerseyville; Amy Heitzig of Jerseyville and many others; many other extended family and friends.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry Sebastian and Meredith Sebastian; father-in-law, Claude Strowmatt and a brother-in-law, Carroll Strowmatt.  In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon on Friday, July 27, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Charles Woodard officiating.  Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.  Memorials may be made to the family to support the Civic Memorial High School Athletic Program and may be accepted at the funeral home.  www.irwinchapel.com
