Duane E. Zimmerman, age 82, passed away at Alton Memorial Hospital on Sunday, November 3, 2024. He was born on September 4, 1942 in Highland, Illinois, the son of Edmund and Lucille (Hediger) Zimmerman. Duane married Susan K. (Gaffney) Zimmerman in Alton, Illinois, on March 25, 1983, and she survives.
Duane was a member of Zion Presbyterian Church. He was a farmer, barber, and then worked for Lewis and Clark Community College until he retired in January 2007. He was also a "jack of all trades" and built furniture, repaired bathrooms and kitchens, and many other home improvement projects. He was an avid AC Tractor restorer and collector.
Duane is survived by his wife of 41 years, Susan (Gaffney) Zimmerman; his daughters Vickie Miller and Amy (Ben) Richey, daughter-in-law Stephanie Zimmerman, and his son Brian (LeeAnn) Biggs; six grandchildren Jake (Leah) Zimmerman, Tiffany (Andrew) McCurdy, Adam (Mattie) Smiley, James Biggs, Bo Richey, and Lucas Biggs; and six great grandchildren, Mason McCurdy, Lincoln Zimmerman, Huxley McCurdy, Charli Zimmerman, Easton Smiley and Walker McCurdy; Brother, Elvin (Rita) Zimmerman, brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Joan Gaffney and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Nellie Zimmerman, father and mother-in-law Harold and Marilyn Gaffney, son, David Zimmerman, son-in-law Marv Miller, grandson, Samuel D. Biggs and brother Donald Zimmerman.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until time of memorial service at 6 p.m. Friday, November 8, 2024 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Reverend Julie Gvillo will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Sam Biggs Memorial Foundation. Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com.
