Duane Kampwerth

Duane Alfred Kampwerth, age 64 of Greenville, IL, passed away on June 21, 2026, at HSHS Holy Family Hospital in Greenville.

Duane was born April 19, 1962, to Benedict and Ameilia (Wessel) Kampwerth. Duane was born the 14th of 16 children. After graduating from Highland High School, Duane continued his education at Renken Technical School in St. Louis, MO. He moved to Northern, IL to work on several cattle ranches, including Bull Valley Simmental Ranch in Crystal Lake and Cress Springs Ranch in Three Forks, MT. In Montana, Duane met and married the love of his life, Jacqueline Stelzel in July 1986.

Together they raised three children, Michael, Adam, and Cecily. They moved to Greenville, IL in 2000 and Duane started working for Korte Luitjohan Construction, where he recently retired.

Duane was preceded in death by his wife Jackie, his parents, two siblings, Phyllis Voss and Karen Obernuefemann, and brothers-in-laws Doug Giger, Mike Bast, and Paul Georgy.

Duane is survived by his children Michael (Amanda) Urbana, IL, Adam (Sara), Highland, IL, and Cecily (Ben) Green, Springfield, IL. His grandchildren are Sylvia, Lucy, Eliza, Alean and Step-grandchildren Haley and Cameron. He is also survived by his siblings Donald (Carol) Kampwerth of Doniphan, MO, Lois (William) Voss of Aviston, David (Barbara) Kampwerth, Highland, Janet (Ferd) Mueller of Germantown, Marilyn Georgy of Crystal Lake, Diane (Dick) Lohman of Grandfork, Gary (Louise) Kampwerth of Highland, Darrell (Pamela) Kampwerth of Huntley, Elaine (Gary) Haake of Breese, Russell (Sarah) Kampwerth of Hamilton, OH, Sue Ann Bast of Pocahontas, Sandra (Dan) Grapperhaus of Troy, Angela (Brian) Petermeyer of Sedalia, CO. Brothers-in-laws Roger Voss of Breese, and Robert Obernuefemann of Troy. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass was held June 27, 2026, at St Lawrence Catholic Church in Greenville. Burial followed at St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery. Visitation was held Friday evening at the Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville.
