Douglas M. Bruns, 63, of Jerseyville, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
He was born in Peoria, IL, on February 2, 1962, the son of A. Dwane and Shirley L. (Oetken) Bruns.
Douglas is a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He had a big heart and passion for helping others. For many years, he delivered Thanksgiving meals from the Hope Center to families. Doug adored dogs and always had treats in his vehicle or his scooter. Most recently, his beagle Holly was spoiled by him.
Doug enjoyed cooking for everyone on camping trips, at his annual fish fry, and for the Little Cowboys football league when his kids were young.
He is survived by his children, Jeffrey Bruns of Champaign, and Julie (Bradley Moore) Bruns of Bethalto; and siblings, Diana (Francis) Lockwood of Edwardsville, Matt (Lori) Bruns of Coal City, IL, Renee (Nick) Conklin of Marquette Heights, IL, and Darryl Lucas of Bloomington, IL.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jeffrey Scott Bruns.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 9:30 am until time of service at 11 am, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, with military honors.
