Dorothy Minks

Dorothy "Dot" (Markel) Minks, 90, was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 3, 2026, at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton, Illinois.

She was born on October 20, 1936, in Alton, Illinois, the daughter of Ira and Cecil (Gates) Markel. On August 28, 1971, she married William "Bill" Minks at Edwards Street Assembly of God Church in Alton. He preceded her in death on March 3, 2015.

Dot is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Kraig Allen of Jerseyville; three grandchildren, Austin, Alyssa, and Josselyn; one great-grandchild; two brothers-in-law, Dink Abbott of Alton and Jerry Duncan of Alton; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Eugene, Arthur, Homer, and Jack Markel; her sisters, Marie Markel, Virginia "Ginny" Abbott, and Clara Duncan; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy "Corky" Thompson and Mildred Harris.

Dot was a lifelong member of Abundant Life Community Church in Alton and was devoted to her faith throughout her life. She enjoyed watching sports, playing cards, traveling, bowling, fishing, make Christmas candy and creating a variety of crafts. She treasured time spent with her family and friends and will be remembered for her kindness, faith, and loving spirit.

Dot's life was a blessing to all who knew her, and her memory will be cherished by those she leaves behind.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 15, 2026 from 1:00 pm until the service at 4:00 pm at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey, IL.

Burial will take place Monday at 11:00 am at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
