Dorothy M. Hamilos, 94, of Glen Carbon, Illinois passed away at 1:05 a.m. on Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon.  She was born December 9, 1925, in Madison, Illinois, a daughter of the late Michael and Viola (Nickoloff) Gancheff.  She married William E. Hamilos on June 29, 1946, in Granite City and he passed away on October 27, 2007.  She retired in 1985 from Granite City School District #9 after 15 years of dedicated service as a secretary.  Dorothy was a faithful member of New Bethel United Methodist Church in Glen Carbon and former member of St. John Evangelical United Church of Christ in Collinsville where she had been a member of the Evening Circle.  She also enjoyed dancing and was active for many years with the Granite City Tap Dancing Group and the Becky Kern Silver Bells and Beau Dancers in Belleville.  She also was a member of the District #9 Secretary Group and the Couples Club at St. John United Church of Christ in Granite City, enjoyed working with the theatre group at Meridian Village and loved attending the H.O.P.E. Widows luncheons.  Dorothy will be remembered for her sweet and loving nature, beautiful smile and her love and special times shared with her family and friends.  She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Frederick “Gordon” Mueller of Granite City; a son and daughter-in-law, Lance Allen and Suzanne Hamilos of Georgetown, Texas; two grandchildren and spouses, Monica and A.J. Thomas of Georgetown, Texas and Aaron and Victoria Hamilos of Austin, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Naomie, Chloie, Sophie and Zebbie Thomas; a brother, John Gancheff of Granite City; sister-in-law, Katherine Butkovich of Granite City; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.  In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Jimmy Gancheff. 

In celebration of her life, visitation will be at the Meridian Village Chapel in Glen Carbon on Monday, February 17, 2020, from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12:00 noon with Reverend Penny Barber officiating.  Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.  Memorials may be made to the Benevolent Fund at Meridian Village, Renee’s Rescues, New Bethel United Methodist Church or the Lahr-Well Christian Academy.  Irwin Chapel of Glen Carbon in charge of arrangements.  www.irwinchapel.com
