Dorothy L. Hudson, 89, passed away at 12:30 am Sunday, August 12, 2013, at her home with her family by her side

She was born on April 13, 1924, in Indian Mound, Tennessee, to James Roland and Maggie (Durrwachter) Ross.

She married Charles E. (Ed) Hudson on February 27, 1942 in Erin, TN. He preceded her in death on October 15, 1984.

She is survived by three daughters, Carolyn (David) Dierker and Brenda (Jerry) Bland of Alton, Cathy (Ron) Lawless of Godfrey; one son, Charlie (Brenda) Hudson of Bethalto; five grandchildren, Jerry Bland, Chandra (Jack) Cope of Alton, Kimberly (Tom) Clark of Godfrey, Chad Hudson of Alton and Cory (Nicky) Hudson of Godfrey; twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Amanda Jane Killebrew, Clarksville, TN and one brother and sister-in-law, Leon (Nancy) Ross of Indian Mound, TN. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends who loved her.


In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Ricky; five sisters, Erline, Ella, Annis, Sarah and Maggie; and five brothers, Chris, James, Dorris, Kenneth and Tommy Ross.

She was a long-time member of First Family Church of East Alton.

For several years she worked for her grandson, Jerry Bland, at Four Seasons Tanning Spa in Bethalto, then for her son-in-law, Ron Lawless, at Ron’s Auto Body in Alton until her health began to fail.

Visitation will be from 5 pm to 8 pm Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.  A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family is very appreciative of the nurses, chaplain, volunteers, etc. of BJC Hospice, Mary, Lisa, Cindy, Joyce, Peg and Randy.

Memorials may be made to BJC Hospice or a charity of one’s choice.
