Dorothy L. Hessel, age 96, of Edwardsville, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2021, in Edwardsville.
She was born October 21, 1924, in, Poag, Illinois, the daughter of the late Bernard & Margaret (Klenke) Ringering.
Dorothy married Emil Hessel, Jr. on May 5, 1946, at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Edwardsville, he preceded her in death on December 27, 1991.
Dorothy worked at Eberhart’s Grocery Store in Edwardsville right out of high school for seven years and then she and Emil started their family.
She is survived by one son Randall L. Hessel of Edwardsville; three daughters, Paula Yount, Cindy Prott & husband Kevin, Linda Miller & Richard Donner, all of Edwardsville; eight grandchildren, Jeni (Trace) Hug, Beth (Nathan)Kuethe, Shannon (Phillip) Morphew, Erin (Josh) Capstick, Jason (Sara) Prott, Justin Gehrs, Ryan Gehrs, Adam Miller; seven great-grandchildren, Breanna, Emilie, Henri, Olivia, Maddie, Madison, Ashley; one great-great-grandson, Aiden; and many nieces, nephews and good friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by one brother, Walter Ringering; and two sister, Amelia Simmons & Alvinia “Sis” Ringering.
She was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Edwardsville and of the Women’s Guild at St. Paul. Dorothy loved to bowl and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Fan.
Due to Covid, there will be no visitation and a private family service will be held at St. Paul U.C.C. with Rev. Diane Grohmann officiating.
Burial will be at St. Paul U.C.C. Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to St. Paul U.C.C. or to the charity of the donor’s choice in care of Weber & Rodney Funeral Home.
