Dorothy Buck
East Saint Louis | Save
Dorothy Jean Buck, 68, passed away on October 29, 2026, at Shiloh Memorial Hospital. She was born on September 5, 1958, in East St. Louis, IL, to the late Jerry and Betty (née Stephenson) Staples.
From a young age, Dorothy was known for her bright spirit, generous heart, and fun-loving personality. She enjoyed camping, fishing, and occasional girls’ nights at the casino. For much of her career, she worked as the office administrator of Camelot Bowl, a place that also gave her the opportunity to partake in one of her favorite pastimes: bowling. She especially enjoyed playing in her bowling league and in Scotch doubles.
Generosity came naturally to Dorothy, whether through her time, her heart, or gift-giving – Dorothy always seemed to know the perfect present to make someone feel special. Above all, though, her greatest gift was the unconditional love she had for her family and friends. Nothing brought her greater happiness than spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, doting on them and enjoying the company of her big, loving family.
Dorothy married Vernon Buck on February 18, 1977, and together they built a life and family over 28 years, until his passing on October 18, 2005. She carried the love and memories they shared throughout her life and later found companionship and love again with Bruce Roady, her partner of more than 18 years. She was especially grateful for the blended family they shared.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Betty Staples; her husband, Vernon; their son, Vernon “Ricky” Buck; Bruce’s son, Danny Roady; and her sister, Kathy Bartlett.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted daughter, Melissa (John) Johnson of Collinsville; Bruce’s children, Christopher (Aimee) Roady, Maria (Jason) Watson, Kimberley (Cliff) House, and Thomas (Deana) Roady; grandchildren Courtney, Brittney, Austin, and Alex; Bruce’s grandchildren, Rhyleigh, Bradley, Willow, Audrie, Aubree, Abigail, Ava, Mason, Paisley, and Kinsley; great-grandchildren Garrett, Reyna, Remy, and Arianna; her dear sisters, Jerri (Jim) Krause of Pontoon Beach and Patricia Embrich of Maryville; along with many cousins, brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, extended family members, and treasured friends who will miss her dearly.
Dorothy’s family will hold a private service, with a larger Celebration of Life to follow at a later date. She will be laid to rest at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Belleville, IL.
Memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s honor to two charities close to her heart: St. Jude or the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
