Dorothy Alice "Dottie" Coop, 80, died at 5:16 a.m., Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Jerseyvile Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Alton, Il., on July 3, 1938, and was the daughter of Raymond E. and Dorothy Alice "Dot" (Chappee) Glatt.
She grew up in the Alton area, and attended Alton Senior High School. She was formerly married to Leroy Brooks, and together, they had four children.
In her early years, she operated a beauty shop out of her home in Alton, and later worked in housekeeping at St. Joseph's Hospital in Alton.
On June 15, 1982 in Carlinville, Illinois, she married Gordon Coop of Jerseyville.
Together, they owned and operated and shared in the day to day operations of Coop's Jewelry in downtown Jerseyville until its closing.
Surviving are her husband, Gordon Coop of Jerseyville; three daughters and sons in law, Laurie and George Raftopoulosof Wood River, Stacie Brooks of Pflugerville, Texas and Julie Brooks of Brighton; two stepsons, Michael Coop and his wife, Karen of Jerseyville and Mark Coop of New Baden; grandchildren and their spouses, Nicole and Jude Ezeagu, Amy and Tim Vachris, Ray and Beth Wiseman, Chelsea Coop, Caleb Coop, Kyle Coop, Brittney Keene, Paige and David Holmes, and Taylor and Brad Jenson; great grandchildren, Sophia, Julius, Nico, Grayson, Coleson, Hudson, Emerson, Jaydon, Kali and Zachary; and a dear sister in-law, Carolyn Wallace of Jerseyville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Raymond Arthur Brooks; a step-daughter, Maggie Keene; and two sisters and a brother in-law, Polly Ann Monroe and Sharon Yvonne and Charles Perkinson.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m Tuesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Father Patrick Gibbons will officiate.
Burial will take place in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
Memorials may be given to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tn.
