Dorothy Aitken

Dorothy K. Aitken, 92, of Bethalto, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Barnes Jewish Hospital.

She was born in Red Bud, IL, on January 14, 1933, the daughter of Emil and Olinda (Hoth) Koenig. She married Dwight Robert Aitken on May 30, 1953. He preceded her in death on January 7, 1998.

Dorothy worked as an Administrative Assistant at Children’s Home and Aid in Alton for over 20 years. She was a devoted member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Rosewood Heights where she was active in the Women of Worship group and enjoyed bowling in the church league. Dorothy was known for her love of crocheting-especially the towels she lovingly gifted to the church, friends and family. She also enjoyed sewing, crafting floral arrangements, and was a passionate animal lover, especially fond of cats. A proud St. Louis Cardinals fan and winter snowbird to Ft. Myers, Florida, Dorothy also loved camping, going to the Muny, watching game shows, and playing cards with friends on Tuesday and Friday nights. Her kindness, creativity, and joyful spirit will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her children, Scott Aitken of St. Louis, MO, and Julie (Steve) Natsch of Boss, MO; a sister, Pearl Luttman of Red Bud, IL; four grandchildren, Ryan Natsch, Matt Natsch, Catherine (Ryan) Shoemaker, and Ilona (Braden) Townsend; and two great-grandchildren, Avery and Bobby Shoemaker.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 4 to 6 pm, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Funeral services will be on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 10:30 am, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Rosewood Heights. Burial will follow at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Red Bud.
