Doris M. Crabtree, 84, died at 10:20 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton. Born May 23, 1929 in Abingdon, IL, she was the daughter of Ira and Sarah Mae (Cover) Hopping. Mrs. Crabtree attended Great Lakes Bible Institute in Zion, IL and was a member of the Abundant Life Christian Center in Alton. She graduated from the Alton Memorial School of Nursing and was an RN at Alton Memorial Hospital for 25 years. She volunteered at the Adult Day Care at St. Clare’s Hospital. On October 19, 1963 she married Carl M. Crabtree in Alton. He preceded her in death on December 22, 1990. Surviving is a daughter-in-law, Shirley Crabtree of Alton, two granddaughters, Donna Belcher (Chaz) of Denver, CO, and Kelly Lenhardt (Marty) of Alton, five great grandchildren, Ashley, Katie, Kayla, Taylor, and Brendan, four great great-grandchildren, Joshua, Amber, Robert, and Raymond, a sister, Ilene Stambaugh of Aurora, IL, a brother, Leroy “Bud” Hopping of Moline, IL. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death a step-son, Don Crabtree, and five brothers, Marvin, Donald, Marshall, Clayton and Dale Hopping. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Reverend Sam Henning will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to the Abundant Life Christian Center or a charity of choice.
