Doris Louise Hamby, 96, of Bethalto passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at 1:30 pm at Heritage Manor in Staunton.
She was born on December 27, 1923 in Grand Rivers, KY, the daughter of Ethel (Woodruff) and Willard Smith and True Tidwell.
Doris was a homemaker, worked at Belscot in Alton, and was a book clerk at the Bethalto Library. She was also a member of the Forest Homes Baptist Church. She also volunteered at the Hope Center.
She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Ann Holtmann of Bethalto, a grandson Derik (Cheryl) Holtmann, Fairview Heights and a granddaughter Kathryn (Eric) Nichols of Staunton, greatgrandchildren, Kyle and Rachel Holtmann, Fairview Heights, Maddie, Grace and Bohdan Nichols, Staunton, one brother Jerry Smith, Long Beach CA and a sister-in-law Wilma Luker, Bethalto. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son James Paul Hamby, a former husband James Hamby, brothers Woodrow Tidwell, Quenton Tidwell, Phillip Tidwell and Haze Smith of Kentucky, Chaudet B Tidwell, Tennessee, sisters, Irene Moneymaker, Kentucky and Virginia Choate, Tennessee, son-in-law Orville J Holtmann, Bethalto.
Funeral services will be private for the family. Pastor Terry McKinzie will officiate. Burial will take place at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto is in charge of arrangements.
