Doris Krankel, 84, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the Greenville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Greenville, Illinois, surrounded by her family.
She was born on November 1, 1941, in Alton, Illinois, the daughter of William and Eileen Mae (Nessl) Dixon. She married Lawrence Francis ‘Ed’ Krankel, on November 18, 1961, in the South Roxanna Assembly of God Church and they were married for over 64 years.
Doris was a woman of many talents and passions. She cherished time spent with her family, who were the heart of her world. Known for her skillful hands, she owned and operated a successful upholstery business and had a lifelong love for sewing. She was also an avid fisher and once caught a blue catfish—a feat that would have made her father immensely proud.
In the kitchen, she was renowned for her culinary skills, especially her famous cheesecake, a treat that became a family favorite.
She and her loving husband celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary by embarking on their first camping trip, sparking a shared love for travel and exploring campgrounds. Their vacations often took them westward, and she delighted in including her family on these adventures, creating cherished memories along the way. Their final camping journey was uniquely spent traveling through the quiet hours of the night—a testament to her adventurous spirit.
Preceding her in death are her parents and a sister, Carol Elaine Dipasquale.
Surviving Doris are her husband, Ed of Sorento, Illinois; her three sons, Ronald (Jane) Krankel of Sorento, Illinois, Thomas (Carolynn) Krankel of Sorento, Illinois, Christopher (Kimberly) Krankel of Godfrey, Illinois; 10 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.
