Jerseyville |

Donna Glee Henderson, 89, passed away peacefully at 2:15 p.m., Friday, January 26, 2024 at her home, surrounded by the love of her family.

She was born on April 18, 1934 in Litchfield, Illinois, and was the only child born to the late Walter John and Mamie Pauline (Weber) Niehaus.

Donna grew up in Litchfield, where she graduated with the Class of 1952 from Litchfield High School. She was chosen as the Litchfield Centennial Queen in 1953, and was honored to be asked to return home for the 150 year Sesquicentennial Celebration.

She married Dr. Harold Victor Henderson on November 25, 1955 in Litchfield. They settled in Jerseyville, following the opening of Vic’s Optometry practice, where they raised their family and where actively involved in the Jerseyville community.

While raising her boys, she enjoyed keeping score at their baseball games and carried on the tradition by doing so at her grandson’s sporting events as well.

Donna and Vic enjoyed spending time together and socializing with their friends, often times on the golf course at Westlake Country Club, of which they were founding members.

Following Vic’s passing on March 6, 1995, Donna treasured quality time spent with her family, dining and socializing with “the girls” and was known for her ability to literally “shop until she dropped”.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Dorothy Jean Henderson.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11 a.m., Friday, February 2, 2024 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
