Donna Rea Gusewelle, 78, went to heaven at 8:58 pm on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis with family by her side.
She was born on August 17, 1947 in Highland, IL to Ervin and Doris (Zobrist) Frey.
Donna married Richard Gusewelle on June 12, 1965 spending over 60 years together. He survives.
Donna loved the Lord with all her heart. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she found great joy in spending time in prayer, journaling about her relationship with God, and worshiping as a devoted member of New Hope Church.
Above all else, Donna cherished her family. Her children and grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life. She treasured every moment spent together, creating countless memories filled with laughter, love, and good times. Whether gathered for special occasions or simply enjoying each other's company, family time was always her favorite.
Donna also had a deep love for the outdoors, especially horse trail riding. She was an animal lover through and through and adored the many dogs that shared her life over the years. One of her greatest pleasures was taking walks with her beloved dog, Stevie.
She enjoyed the simple blessings of life-watching television alongside the love of her life, sharing quiet moments together, and appreciating the everyday gifts God provided.
Donna will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her loving heart, her joyful spirit, and her devotion to those she loved most. Her legacy of faith, kindness, and family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
In addition to her husband, Richard; she is survived by two children and their spouses, Ryan and Sarah Gusewelle, and Gina and Phil Huff; six grandchildren, Chase, Preston, Armana, Murphy, Justin, and Phiona; and many other relatives and friends.
Donna is preceded in death by her parents.
Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Hope Church Building Fund and Refuge for Kids.
