Donald W. Opel, 90, passed away 8:17 p.m. Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at his residence.
Born in Worden on January 23, 1927, he was the son of Christian Fred and Emma (Kroeger) Opel.
He served as a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years before retiring in 1986.
On October 10, 1952 in Worden, he married Vera M. Schneider. She died May 1, 2014.
Surviving are a daughter, Kathy Opel of Wood River; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents; wife; brother, Arthur Opel; and two sisters, Neola Deves and Hulda Wolf preceded in death.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Friday, October 13 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wood River. Pastor George Gude will officiate.
Burial will follow in Worden Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St.Paul Lutheran Church in Wood River, where he had been a member.
