Donald H. McPherson, 81, passed away 8:55 a.m., Sunday, May 21, 2017 at his son's home.
Born in Alton on September 7, 1935, he was the son of Oscar H. and Harriet Louise (Haas) McPherson.
A U.S. Army Veteran, he retired as a Corrections Officer for the State of Missouri. He had been Director of the Law Enforcement Library in the Lewis and Clark Library System, a former Village of East Alton Police Officer and a two-term Village Trustee in East Alton.
On December 4, 1961 in Alton, he married Margaret Zumwalt. She survives.
Surviving also are a son, Robert (Beverly) McPherson of Elsah; two grandsons, Ben (Lori) McPherson, Brad (Vanna) McPherson; three great grandchildren, Chloe, Reese and Henry; sister-in-law, JoAnn McPherson; a niece and three nephews.
Preceding in death were his parents; son, Virgil Lee Davis, III; and brother, Jerry McPherson.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Church in Alton.
Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
