Donald G. Stephenson, 79, of Columbia, IL, went to be with the Lord at 3:06 am Thursday November 26, 2009.

He was born on August 10, 1930 in St. Louis, MO, the son of Connie & Effie (Patton) Stephenson.

He grew up in Alton, IL and was a sergeant in the US Marine Corp serving in the Korean Conflict. He worked as a machinist at Shell Oil Refinery in Wood River for 10 years. He became the Plant Manager of Car-Anth Manufacturing in St. Louis, MO. In 1974 he started Dove Industries Inc. in Belleville, IL where he served as President until he retired in 1996.

He was always interested in refinishing & collecting antique furniture. He was a skilled machinist, a master craftsman, Designer and Fabricator. He had the great ability to understand the inner workings of everything mechanical. He was always your "Go to Guy."

He was a member of Our Lord's Lutheran Church in Maryville.

He was preceded in death by the mother of his five children, Leola Stephenson of East Alton, IL; he is survived by three daughters and spouses, Suzette & Justin Allinger of St. Louis, Sally & Dick Chamberlain of Collinsville, and Sara & Loren McDonald of Meadowbrook; two sons, Eric & Candy Stephenson of Belleville, IL and Peter Stephenson and Marilyn of Sacramento, CA; eight grandchildren, Jenifer McDonald, Jesse Schneider, Stephen Stephenson, Jodie Whitworth, Matthew Stephenson, Natalie Whitworth, Neal Whitworth and Nathan Stephenson.

Special thanks to Joan Stephenson for all her love and support when she was needed the most. A very special thank you goes to all the loving and caring people at Hospice of
Southern Illinois (Orange South) for all their support and comfort.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois (Orange South).

In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Tuesday December 1, 2009 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be held at 10 am Wednesday December 2, 2009 with Rev. John Lottes officiating.

Cremation rites will be accorded.
