Donald Gene Diserens, 72, of Alton passed away Thursday, August 27, 2020 peacefully at home in Ozark, MO. Please join the family for the Celebration of Don's Life. Open House, 4:00-7:00p.m. Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Woodlands Golf Club in Alton, IL.
Don was born in Alton, IL to Dorothy and Charles Hicks on October 3, 1947. He was a graduate of Alton High School class of 1965. Celebrated 50 years of marriage to Starlette (Toot) Diserens who were married September 6, 1969. Don is preceded in death by parents Charles and Mary Hicks, Luther and Dorothy Diserens; brother Randall Hicks.
Don is survived by his wife Starlette (Toot) Diserens; daughters Trisha Davenport (Charles Davenport) of King of Prussia, PA; Megan Young (Roy Young) of Ozark, MO; siblings, Pam Brunnworth, Gerald Diserens (Kendra), Patty Lane (Marc), Robert Diserens (Lisa), Cathy Favre, Debbie (Waters) Koenig (Don), Michael Hicks (Rhonda), Christopher Hicks (Theresa), Scott Hicks (Julie); three grandchildren, Aubrielle Davenport, Wyatt and Lucas Young; many beloved nieces and nephews.
Don Diserens lived a life worth living! A veteran of Vietnam War, he served in the United States Army as an Infantryman in the 22nd Infantry Regiment 1967-1969. Awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Worked in the welding and hospitality industry for over 40 year and was the Owner of Alton Sport Tap from 1983-2013. He spent 40 years coaching fastpitch softball. The men's Alton A's, Ken Jamison, and Alton Sport's Tap teams. Don also cofounded and coached for the Alton Flame's girl's softball organization. He was a member of Ozark Highland Church in Ozark, MO where he served as Deacon. He loved God, his country and his family. He had a kind and compassionate heart and a fierce protector of those he loved. He was a hero to some, a coach to many and a friend to more than can be counted. He is greatly missed.
