Donald Kochanski

 Donald “Don” Kochanski, 79, died at 2:35 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Jerseyville Manor in Jerseyville, IL. Born June 17, 1937 in Alton, he was the son of Anthony and Marie (Kranz) Kochanski.  Mr. Kochanski served in the U.S. Air Force for four years and was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grafton.  He retired as a letter carrier for the United States Post Office after 33 years of service and later worked for the City of Alton for eight years.  He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers and the Alton Knights of Columbus.  On April 27, 1957 he married the former Rose Marie Maher in Alton.  She survives.  Also surviving are seven children, Donna (Alan) Meyer of St. Peters, MO, Ted (Alicia) Kochanski of Jersey Co., Mary Rose (Bryan Jenkins) Runde of Jersey Co., John Kochanski of Jersey Co., Elizabeth (Brian) Mincy-Phipps of Jersey Co., Andrew (Wendy) Kochanski of Valleyview, TX, and Stan (Trish) Kochanski of Alton.  Fifteen grandchildren; Rose, Katie and Robert Meyer, Alison Hodge, Daniel and Lauren Kochanski, Lisa Runde, Kelley Cassens, Lindsey and Shane Kochanski, CJ and Sam Mincy, Josh and Paige Kochanski and Cassie Kochanski, and four great grandchildren, Madison and Josh Hodge, Jordan Abner and Raeghan Runde.  Three brothers, Tony Kochanski of Marthasville, MO, Robert Kochanski of Vero Beach, FL, and Jerry Kochanski of Grand Rapids, MI, two sisters, Theresa (Jim) Davidson of St. Peters, MO, and Kathy Anderson of St. Peters, MO, three sisters-in-law, Pat Maher, Carol Jaycox-Kochanski, and Kathleen Meyers, a brother-in-law, Robert Maher and a family friend, Charles Mincy.  Along with his parents he was preceded in death by an infant son, Timothy Donald Kochanski, a brother, Steve Kochanski, three brothers-in-law, Bill Anderson, Warren Meyers and Dan Maher, a sister-in-law, Betty Maher, and sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette and David Droste.  Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grafton.  Father Patrick Gibbons will officiate.  Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308.  Memorials may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society or St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.  Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
