Don Smith

Jerry Don Smith, 83, of St. Jacob, IL, born January 5, 1943, in Blackrock, AR and passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, IL.

Don worked as a horseshoer/farrier for many years. He and Kay worked at the Strakeljahn Farm and ran the produce stand until retirement.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Bernis C and Vivian L. (nee Wells) Smith; his brothers, Charles Wells Smith and James Bernis Smith.

Surviving is his loving wife, Mary K. (nee Strackeljahn) Smith; his sister, Debra Ann Rodriguez of Denver, NC; Nieces, Nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

Visitation for Don will be 5 to 7 pm on Sunday, September 27, at Richeson Funeral Home, Troy, IL and 10 to 11 am on Monday September 28, 2026, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Troy, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday, Sept 28, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Troy, IL with Rev. Albert Collver officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Glen Carbon, IL.
