Don Sparrowk

Don E. Sparrowk, 76, passed away at 9:59 pm on Monday, October 31, 2016, at Alton Memorial Hospital.He was born June 6, 1940, in Gideon, Missouri, the son of Earl and Grace “Fern” (Abernathy) Sparrowk. Don married Reita Higgins on March 19, 1960 at Calvary Baptist Church in Alton and she survives.Don worked for McDonnell-Douglas for thirty years before retiring. He was an avid Cardinals fan, as well a fan of other sports, especially college basketball and football. Don collected antique watches and knives. He was a member of the Bunker Hill Knife Club. In his younger years his passions included fishing, and raising and showing quarter horses. Don was proud to have been a member of “The Good Ol’ Boys” who met at Glazy Squares Donut Shop in East Alton. Don and Reita spent many hours together antiquing and attending auctions. He was a member of and deeply loved Wanda United Methodist Church.In addition to his wife, Reita; he is survived by two children, Karla Lindsey and Keith Sparrowk, both of Bethalto; a brother, John Sparrowk (Robin), also of Bethalto; two sisters, Joyce Sparrowk and Betty Campbell, both of Gideon MO; a sister-in-law, Glenda Sparrowk of Bethalto; two grandchildren, Dennis Lindsey and Rachel Sparrowk; three great-grandchildren, Addison, Scott and Emma Lindsey; his dear friend, Tim Bryant; and many other relatives and good friends.He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Brian Sparrowk; a brother-in-law, Bob Campbell; and a granddaughter, Laura Wray.Visitation will be held Friday, November 4, 2016 from 10:00 am until the time of funeral service at 1:00 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with Pastor Gary Mosimann officiating.A private family burial will be held at a later date.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wanda United Methodist Church or to a charity of one’s choice.Arrangements by Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.Online condolences and guest book may be found at www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com
