Don Camp

Don Camp, 81, of Vandalia, died at 5:11 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

Don was born on June 20, 1940, in Brownstown, IL, the son of William L. and Vera Grace (Wolfe) Camp.

Don grew up around the Bridgeport and Lawrenceville area in southern Illinois before moving to the Vandalia in 1965. He graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1958 and proudly served his country in the Illinois Army National Guard for six years. Don worked for the National Supply Company in southern Illinois before becoming the owner and operator of the Standard Oil Station and Arco Station in Vandalia.  After selling both filling stations, Don worked as an automobile parts salesman and eventually for the State of Illinois Department of Corrections until his retirement in the late 1990s. He loved the game of golf and was a talented golfer. Don was personable and loved talking and joking around with all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tina Camp; and sister-in-law, Bev Camp.

Don is survived by his daughter, Tabatha Collins of Bremerton, WA; grandchildren, Tyler Dooghan of San Diego, CA, Madison, and Jesse Dooghan, both of Bellingham, WA, and Gunnar Collins of Bremerton, WA; and siblings, Raymond (Dorthy) Camp of Highland, IL, Marion Camp of Reno, NV, and Carl (Sandy) Camp of Highland, IL.

Cremation was provided by the Lincoln Land Cremation Society.
