Dolores Ann Huxol passed away on her 94th birthday, Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Cedarhurst in Bethalto.
She was born on October 8, 1929, in Bethalto, the daughter of Lyman "Bullet" C. and Louise M. (Welch) Zimmermann. She married Harry R. Huxol in Springfield, MO, on June 14, 1953. He preceded her in death in 1994. She was also preceded in death by a brother, James Zimmermann; and a nephew, Doug Connoyer.
Dolores worked as a music teacher at Pawnee Elementary School in Overland Park, KS, for 40 years before retirement. She is a graduate of Bethalto High School, where she was the first Homecoming Queen in 1947. Dolores loved the piano and was a naturally gifted pianist. She taught piano lessons until she moved back to Bethalto. She also enjoyed sewing and having lunch with retired teacher friends. Dolores was crazy about children. She loved her nieces and nephews, and remained close to them and a big part of their lives.
Dolores is survived by a sister, Joy (Zimmermann) Lamar of Bethalto; her nieces and nephews, Anita (Russell) Noel of Edwardsville, Greg Connoyer of Bethalto, Ronnie Connoyer of Bethalto, Wendy (Mike) Schroeder of Portage Des Sioux, MO, Mike Zimmermann of Springfield, MO, Dr. Pat (Connie) Zimmermann of Edwardsville, Dave (Jane) Zimmermann of Godfrey, Kris (Mike) Magee of Bethalto, Dianna (Joe) Vowell of Hilliard, OH, Ann Hirschl of St. Louis, MO, and Richard Hirschl of Chicago; as well as numerous great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2023, from 5:30 pm until time of service at 7:00 pm, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Graveside service will be on Friday, October 13, 2023, at 10:00 am, at Bethalto United Methodist Cemetery in Bethalto with Father Tom Liebler as celebrant.
