Denver "Mac" A. McCollum, 94, passed away at 11:35 p.m. on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in MO.
He was born on August 14, 1930 in Mulberry Grove, IL to Arthur E. and Iva (Blankenship) McCollum.
He married Mary Dunphy on September 30, 1955 and they celebrated over 60 years of devoted marriage. Mac and Mary Lou both enjoyed traveling, with the Great Smoky Mountains and Ireland being favorites.
He attended school at Vandalia High School for four years and then proudly served his country in the United States Army. Denver "Mac" started work as a PBX Installer, moving to management for both Illinois Bell and later AT&T.
He was a proud member and Past Master of the Franklin Masonic Lodge #25 AF & AM. He had been an avid golfer, and later in life enjoyed crossword puzzles, find a word, and listening to and writing music.
Denver "Mac" is survived by three sons, Gregg McCollum of Godfrey, Brian McCollum of FL, and Barry McCollum of NY; Granddaughter, Caitlin McCollum, and Grandson, Jesse (Scarlet) McCollum; Great-grandson, Fergus McCollum; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou McCollum, along with his father, Arthur E McCollum, and mother, Iva I. McCollum, and two brothers, Dale McCollum, and Dewitt McCollum.
Visitation will be Friday, October 25, 2024, 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Homes - Godfrey, Illinois, with Pastor Terry McKinzie officiating. Burial will take place in the Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
