Dennis Dean Hutchins, 81, of Bethalto, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at his residence with his family by his side.
He was born in Alton, IL, on August 15, 1944, the son of Alva T. and Leola J. (Swan) Hutchins. Dennis married Alice M. Chestnut on June 29, 1974 at the Presbyterian Church in Bethalto, they celebrated 51 wonderful years together.
Dennis is a United States Army Veteran. He started working for McDonnell Douglas at the age of 18 in 1962. He then served in the Army from 1965 to 1967. When he came back from serving his country for 2 years, he went back to work at McDonnell Douglas, from where he retired after 44 years, in 2006, at the age of 62 from Boeing. He was a member of The American Legion Post 214 in Bethalto, and a founding member of Lewis and Clark Radio Club where he was a ham radio operator and trustee. Dennis enjoyed watching TV shows including western movies. Most of all, he loved spending time with his friends and family.
Along with his wife, Alice, he is survived by his children, Jennifer Rayson of Alton, and Jeffrey Hutchins of Bethalto; a brother, Ronnie (Diane) Hutchins of Florida; and two grandchildren, Kaylee Wood and Maxwell Rayson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Joyce Klabough; and a son-in-law, Reverend Michael Rayson.
The family will host a celebration of life at a later date, at the American Legion in Bethalto.
Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto is assisting the family with final wishes.
Memorials are suggested to Shriner's Hospital for Children.
