Denis E. Hellrung, 72, died at 2:57 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Alton. Born July 20, 1940 in Alton, he was the son of Henry J. and Elsa (Johnson) Hellrung. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. On January 20, 1997 he married the former Jacquelin Byrley in Las Vegas, NV. She survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Sharon Miller of Carrollton, IL, a son, Kenneth Hellrung of South Roxana, 11 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and a sister, Charlotte Herndon of St. Charles, MO, and several nieces and nephews. Along with his family he will also be missed by his dogs Shotsie and Minnie. He was preceded in death by a son, Ray Poe, a great grandchild, three brothers, Kenneth King, Donald Hellrung, and Henry R. Hellrung, and two sisters, Iris Hellrung, and Betty Jean Cox. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. Father John Luong, OMV will officiate. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
