Dellas Gilbert

Dellas C. Gilbert, 83, died at 10:55 a.m, Sunday, January 4, 2015 at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home.He was born in Jersey County on July 31, 1931, the son of the late William & Edna (Ford) Gilbert.He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Germany during the Korean War, and retired as a machinist from Owens-Illinois after nearly 40 years of dedicated service.Dellas married the former Catherine Cunningham on Oct. 30, 1953 in Carrollton, and for nearly 47 years they resided in the Shipman area, where they raised their two children before relocating to Jerseyvillle in 2006.  Dellas & Catherine shared nearly 59 years before her death on Sept. 25, 2012.Surviving are a son, Dellas E. Gilbert of Carlinville; a daughter & son in law, Brenda & Richard Anderson of Kane; three grandchildren, Kelly, and her husband, Jeremy Zumwalt of Chatham, Roman Gilbert of Los Angeles, Ca., and Jonathon Anderson, and his fiance', Lindsey Rudolph of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; a great granddaughter, Katie Gilbert; and two sisters & a brother in law, Betty Burch of Carrollton, and Anna & Howard Marshall of Grafton.In addition to his parents, and his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Malone; and a brother, Ralph Pickett Jr.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Sunday at the Delhi Baptist Church in Delhi, with Rev. Ken Fields and Rev. Joe Groppel officiating.Burial will be in the Carrollton City Cemetery with the Tri County Honor Guard performing military graveside rites.Memorials may be given to the Delhi Baptist Church or to the Alzheimers Association.
