Della Sautman

Della Mae (Peterson) Sautman, age 90 of Greenville, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family Saturday evening, December 13, 2025.

Della Mae Sautman, daughter of Woodrow Wilson and Lucy Violet (Sandifer) Peterson, was born on June 3, 1935, in Greenville. After graduating from Greenville High School, she worked for Illinois Bell as a telephone operator. She later held the position of Bond County Deputy Circuit Clerk for many years. 

Della and John Donald Sautman were united in marriage on October 5th, 1957 at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Carlyle. They enjoyed 62 years together before his passing on February 18, 2020. 

Throughout her life, Della was a dedicated member of the Democratic Party. Della was also a devoted patron of Native American schools for many years. Della took great pleasure in traveling with her husband and family and made many cherished memories on the beaches of Mexico and Alabama.

Della is preceded in death by her parents Woodrow and Lucy Violet Peterson, husband Don Sautman, brother Frank Peterson, sister-in-law Lois Peterson, and nieces Sharon Peterson and Jill White. 

Della is survived by her two children Beth Tomaschke of Greenville and Scott (Lisa) Sautman of Pocahontas, her sister Rose (Jerry) Riechart of Blue Mound, her four loving grandchildren Sydney Tomaschke, Tanner (Madelyn) Tomaschke, Ryan (Josie) Sautman, and Nath Tinker. Della was also blessed with eight great grandchildren.

The family will have a private service for Della on Monday, December 22, at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. For those who desire, memorials in Della’s name may be made to Saint Joseph’s Indian School and Wounded Warriors.
