Deborah Anderson

Bethalto |

Deborah K. Anderson, 65, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at St. Louis University Hospital.

Born Jan. 27, 1959 in Wood River, she was the daughter of Leon A. and Evelyn O. (Anderson) Young.

Debbie loved reading novels and writing, and worked as a professional writer and editor.  She edited several books and wrote for many Christian publications, including Chicken Soup for the Soul. An avid supporter of Bethalto’s Police and Fire Departments, Debbie was well-known for being kind-hearted, empathetic and compassionate. She enjoyed her weekly grocery shopping trips with her brother, and she had a way with animals, so much that she’d been called an animal “whisperer.”

Debbie is survived by her husband of 43 years, Tom Anderson and her brother, William “Bill” Young of Bethalto; and many extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Casey A. Anderson in 1983; and two brothers, Allen Young and Michael Young.

Visitation will be at Paynic Home for Funerals on Monday, Apr. 22 from 10 a.m. until services begin at 1 p.m.  Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.

Memorials may be made to the Community Hope Center’s Food Pantry.
