DATE & PLACE: October 19, 1943 in Iola, Kansas
MILITARY SERVICE: Dean joined the Air Force when he was seventeen in 1938, the Armed Services found out he was underage and was discharged. Dean then re-enlisted in 1939. His rank was Staff Sergeant, his position was tail gunner on B-24-B-25. He flew many missions over Germany. He had to parachute from the plane on numerous occasions. In 1944, Dean took volunteer discharge from the Air Force, he then joined the Army because they needed soldiers on ground warfare. He was an ammunition loader with General Patton. Dean always laughed about going through Basic Training 3 times. He was discharged October 19, 1945, he was very proud of his service time for his country and would always say “IF I HAD TO, I WOULD DO IT AGAIN.”
OCCUPATION: Dean worked in High Explosive-Powder Mill Olin Winchester for 30 years.
MEMBERSHIPS:. Church of the Nazarene for 55 years (he looked forward to Sunday and being with his family and friends in the Senior Adult Sunday School Class) and American Legion Post 492. Dean was an avid Baseball Cardinal Fan and would not miss wrestling 3 times weekly. He loved listening to Big Band, Gospel and Blue Grass music. Dean was a loving husband, father and friend. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
