David Schmidt

David "Dave" Paul Schmidt, 70, of Wood River, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.

He was born on August 3, 1955, in Alton, IL, the son of Shirley (Zimmermann) Stearns and Leonard Schmidt. Dave married Connie Schutzenhofer in Alton on October 25, 1985, and she survives.

Dave was a kind, gentle soul. To know Dave was to love Dave. He retired from Boeing in 2015. Dave loved to run and ride bicycles for miles. He was a member of the Metro Tri Club and the Wood River Lions Club. He also served as President of Roxana Library Board for several years.

Along with his wife, Connie, he is survived by his son, Michael Tate (Jennifer) Schmidt of Grafton; his precious granddaughter, Eloise; a sister, Virginia (Larry) Ziglar of Staunton; brothers, Chris (Suprina) Schmidt of Edwardsville, Joe (Julie) Schmidt of St. Charles, MO, and Tom Schmidt of Roxana; brothers-in-law, Joe (Jodi) Schutzenhofer of Florissant, MO, and John (Tyrene) Schutzenofer of Carrollton, VA; sisters-in-law, Amanda (Jerome) Lewis and Karen (Stuart) Talbot of Shreveport, LA; and many nieces and nephews who were dear to his heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his mother-in-law and father-in-law.

Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded by Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

No services will be held at this time. The family will host a celebration of life at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to Shriner's Hospital for Children and/or St. John's Community Care in Collinsville, IL.
