David R. Woltering, 85, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2017, at Eden Village Care Center in Glen Carbon.He was born September 4, 1932, in Highland, Illinois, son of the late Bernard H. and Clara F. (Kusterman-Clementz) WolteringOn February 2, 1956, David married Doris Mae Gassmann in Highland, Illinois. She preceded him in death in 1991.During his senior year of high school, in 1950, he became the sole support for his mother and siblings, working at the Texco station after school and driving a coal truck and lime spreader in the evenings. He also worked at Olin Brass at that time. In 1955, he worked for H.E. Trucking in Marine and owned the Phillips 66 station in Highland. Prior to retirement he worked for 37 years in route sales for Pepsi Cola.David was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Midway since 1980. He was also a lifetime member of the Highland VFW Post 5945 and a former member of both The Alton Eagles 254 and Sunshine Fellowship Club & Brotherhood of St. John United Church of Christ.David was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1954.Survivors include his daughter and her husband, Sheila and Richard Martin of Edwardsville; two grandchildren, Hayley and Andrew Dall, Brianna Martin; and one great granddaughter, Skylar Dall.In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Stacey Lee Grace; six siblings, Mary Ann Clementz Hotz, Helen M. Clementz, Clearence Clementz, Leonard J. Woltering, Bernice Woltering Mueller, Delores Woltering Ripperda; and his longtime companion, Audrey Friedel.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. David’s family will also receive friends and family between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at St. John United Church of ChristFuneral service will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at St. John United Church of Christ in Midway with Pastor Lori Schafer officiating.Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery in Midway.Memorials may be made to the St. John United Church of Christ.Online condolences and memorials may be sent to www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com
