David Martin

David R. Martin, 76, passed away, on Monday, December 5, 2016, at OSF St. Anthony in Alton.He was born December 7, 1939, in Sikeston, Missouri, the son of James and Lucille (Sizemore) Martin.David worked as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, in Cottage Hills, for 33 years prior to his retirement in 1999. He had a love for hunting and fishing, working around the house, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.On April 26, 1963, David married Roberta Rankin, in Cottage Hills. She survives.In addition to his wife, survivors include three children, Candiss Martin of Bunker Hill, Kelly Northcutt and her husband Scott of South Roxana, Kathy Martin of Bunker Hill; nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren; and one brother and his wife, Jim and Gladys Martin of Bethalto.He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Melinda Kay Martin; and brother, James Smart.A memorial service celebrating David’s life will be held at a later date.Cremation rites have been accorded.Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.An online condolence and guest book may be found at www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com .
