David Martin Fairbanks, 69, of Brighton, Illinois and formerly of Hutchinson, Kansas and the St. Louis area passed away at 1:26 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at Liberty Village in Maryville, Illinois. Born January 17, 1951 in Spokane, Washington. He was a son of the late Harold Stanley Fairbanks, stepson of Theresa Fairbanks of Springfield, Virginia and son of the late Bette Anne (Bowman) McManus. He retired from Union Pacific Railroad after 25 years of dedicated service as a switchman and later worked for Kraft Foods as a machine operator. Throughout the years, he enjoyed owning and operating various businesses. He proudly served his country for six years with the Air National Guard. David loved the outdoors, always being on or around water, and enjoyed his days of boating. He had a love of grilling and cooking for people, collecting anything that caught his eye and enjoyed his infamous cannon. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends. He is survived by five children and their spouses, Angela and Bob Bono of Wentzville, Missouri, Anne Marie and Doug Schneider of Wentzville, Missouri, Alicia and Charles Haynes of Edwardsville, Michael Fairbanks of Glen Carbon, and Stephanie Morber of Granite City; seven grandchildren and a spouse, Kyle and Cmantha Schultz, Tony Bono, Maria Bono, Isabella Schneider, Scott Schneider, Charlotte Haynes, and Elaina Haynes; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Clifford and Adrienne Fairbanks of St. Charles, Missouri, Steve and Donna Riedel of O’Fallon, Missouri, and Dan Riedel of Springfield, Virginia; a sister, Sr. Diane McManus of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Steven McManus and Jerry Riedel.
In celebration of his life, a memorial visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon on Saturday, February 15, 2020 from 12:00 noon until time of memorial service at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Charles West officiating.
