David Ahrens

David Gary Ahrens, age 82, of Edwardsville, IL, passed away at John Cochran VA Medical Center in St. Louis, MO, on Monday, March 15, 2021 at 3:08 pm. 

Gary was born in Edwardsville on February 14, 1939, the son of the late Edward M. & Bernice E. (Bernreuther) Ahrens.  Gary married Kathy Ann Nelson on April 7, 2000, in Edwardsville. 

Besides his wife of 20 years,  Gary is survived by 3 sons, James Ahrens & wife Yolly, of Norwalk, CA, Steven Ahrens, of Edwardsville, and Jason Sodam, of Pevely, MO;  four daughters, Lisa Barton & husband Kendall, of Collinsville, IL, Cheryl Ahrens, of Springfield, IL, Nickie Depper & husband Butch, of Litchfield, IL, and Andy Probst, of Worden, IL; 8 grandchildren, Nicholas, Kevin, Breanna, David, Katie, Jason Jr., Austin, Kenzy; and a brother, Bob & wife Ella Ahrens, of Edwardsville. 

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Cindy Ahrens, and a brother Kent Ahrens.

After graduating from Edwardsville High School, Gary joined the United States Army. Gary was also a member of the Edwardsville Moose Lodge. 

Gary was cremated according to his wishes. A private family service will be held and interment will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. The family request memorials to the American Heart Association or Wounded Warriors in care of Weber & Rodney Funeral Home. Weber & Rodney Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
