David Lee Allen, age 88, of Godfrey, Illinois, passed away on February 14, 2024.
David was born on February 8, 1936 to Ray and Carmen Allen of Wood River, Illinois.
He was a graduate of EAWR High School and of the University of Illinois. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in General Engineering. David served in the U.S. Army. He worked at and retired from the Alton School District, where he served as Head of Buildings and Grounds. He also received a teaching certificate from SIU and worked as a volunteer adult literacy coach, the job he said was his most rewarding. David was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for years.
David was an avid traveler. He enjoyed traveling all over the world, including 22 trips to England. He enjoyed reading, running, and being adventurous.
David is survived by his two sisters, whom he adored: Carmen Nicholson of Boise, Idaho, and Carol Becker of Camarillo, California. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends, including two special friends, Richard (Dick) Gordon and Jerry Wunderlich.
David was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, F. Jack Allen and Glenn (Gus) Allen.
Family and friends will miss David immensely; his witty humor and love of life were always present. A family and friend gathering to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.
