Darrell Yates

In Loving Memory of Darrell Griffin Yates, Jr. May 30, 1956, to July 15, 2026.

Darrell passed peacefully in his home surrounded by the family he loved more than anything in this world on July 15, 2026.

To know Darrell was to know laughter. He never met a stranger, only friends he hadn't swapped stories with yet. He had a joke for every occasion, a song for every gathering, and if there was a microphone nearby, everyone knew who was taking the stage. Whether he was cheering on a local band, casting a fishing line, or convincing everyone that "this one is really, really the biggest fish," Darrell made life more fun by simply being himself. Above everything else, he was a family man. His greatest pride was not the fish he caught or the songs he sang. It was in the people he loved. His kindness, generosity, and enormous heart left an imprint on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Darrell leaves behind the love of his life, his wife Stacie; their children, Brandi (Chris), Brian (Ryan), Danielle (Tommy); his cherished grandchildren, Lydia, Izabelle, Niko, and Brody; his parents, Darrell Yates, Sr. and Evelyn; his brothers Terry (Susan), Wendall (Dawn), Greg (Bobbi), Timmy (Dede); his sister, Gina; brother-in-law, Stephen (Leesa) along with many nieces, nephews, life-long friends, and everyone lucky enough to have been part of his story.

He was welcomed into eternal peace by his mother, Georgia, and his precious grandchildren, Savannah and Taylor, who undoubtedly greeted him with open arms. If Heaven has lakes, Darrell has already found the best fishing spot. If Heaven has karaoke, they're probably wondering who invited the guy that knows every song by heart.

In honor of Darrell, tell a joke, sing a song even if you're off-key, spend time with your family, and always treat people the way you want to be treated.

A celebration of Darrell's life will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
