Darrell Crotchett

Darrell  “Archie” Crotchett, 87, passed away at 5:35 am, on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at OSF St. Clare’s Hospital in Alton.

He was born in Rockbridge, IL in on February 27, 1928, the son of the late  Ross M. and Enid I. (Stringer) Crotchett.

Darrell married Carol H. Wells at Kane Baptist Church in Kane on July 9, 1955, she survives.

He was employed at Owens Illinois Glass as a pipefitter for over 35 years. He was a member of the Alton Moose, served as president for the Owenized Club for two terms, was a pitcher for 33 years for fast pitch soft ball known as“Fireball Archie”   and enjoyed golfing. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, and five children and their spouses; Randy and Mona Crotchett of Bethalto, Sherry Hallows of Alton, Tammy and Rick McClain of Alton. Robin and John Kelly of Maryland and Pamyla and Steve Emery of California. Seven siblings: Nola Cambell of Alton, Jim and Pam Crotchett of Jerseyville, Kenneth and Esther Crotchett of Springfield, Kentner and Naomi Crotchett of Gas City, IN, Lois and Deanie Carr of Jerseyville, Taunjai Crotchett of Jerseyville and Meda and Wilbur Gowins of Jerseyville. Fifteen grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great grandson; James Bounds, a brother; Winston Crotchett, a sister-in-law; Ruth Crotchett and a brother-in-law; Kenneth Cambell.

Visitation will be at 11 am until time of service at 1 pm at the Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, IL. on Friday, January 8, 2016 with the Rev. David Weimer  officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
