Darman Verdell Owens, 82, died at 9:33 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2012 at his home in Godfrey. Born June 5, 1930 in Zalma, Missouri, he was the son of Irvin and Pearl (Herrell) Owens. Verdell worked at Owens Illinois in Alton for 37 years as a specialist in the forming department. He enjoyed fishing, baseball, and reading, and was a member of the New Beginning Church in Bunker Hill. He married the former Maxine Ray in 1954. She survives. Also surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Ray Watsek of Godfrey, a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Annette Delehanty of Debay, Oregon, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, three brothers, five sisters, and many nieces and nephews as well as special neighbors and close friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Dillender, an infant sister and one brother. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
