Dana Smith

Jerseyville |

Dana Lynn Smith, 49, died unexpectedly at 2:33 p.m., Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.

She was born in Jerseyville, Illinois on October 6, 1974, the youngest of four children born to Bobby Joe and Judith (Erwin) Smith.

Dana attended St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic School, and graduated in 1992 from Jersey Community High School, both in Jerseyville. She later obtained her Associate's Degree from Lewis & Clark Community College in Godfrey.

She had been employed as an Operations Support Analyst for Secure Data Technologies in O'Fallon, Illinois, and most recently was involved in Accounts Receivable for Dakota Grizzly and ACI Plastics. She currently was serving as a bartender at Uncle Al's in Jerseyville.

Growing up in a close knit, loving family, Dana treasured the time spent with her family whether it was sitting by the pool, trips to the Lake of the Ozarks, or visiting area establishments. Regardless of the situation, Dana always possessed a smile and a gift of making any get together a party.

She was blessed throughout the years with a circle of girlfriends that made her life wonderful, and she cherished every one of their friendships and the memories of their many crazy antics.

Her life became complete seven years ago, when she was blessed with her son, Zachary. She loved being a Mom, and her little boy was her world. The love she had for her son was undeniable, and she was so proud of the young man he was becoming.  Her obituary picture was carefully selected by Zachary himself, as he felt like it depicted her as a combination of an elf and the princess that she was.

She is survived by her son, Zachary Alexander Heitzig; her parents, Bobby and Judy Smith of Jerseyville; two sisters and brothers in-law, Carrie and Gregory Flynn of Dow and Jill and Roger Ward of Jerseyville; a brother and sister in-law, Duff and Tammy Smith of Brighton;  nieces and nephews, Macie, Thomas, Caden and Josh; along with Shon Heitzig, who remained a special person in her life, and the way the two co-parented with each other, was just simply amazing.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ray Robert and Rachel Smith and Paul and Florence Erwin; and an uncle, Thomas Erwin.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
