Dallas Nickel, age 83 of Greenville, passed away Monday, November 25, 2024, at HSHS Holy Family Hospital in Greenville, Illinois.
Fred Dallas Nickel Jr. was born March 28, 1941, in Virden, Illinois. He is the son of Fred Dallas Nickel Sr. and Mary Helen Adcock Nickel who preceded him in death along with his brother, Darell Nickel.
Dallas and Donna Boston were united in marriage on August 12, 1960. They have enjoyed 64 years together. They are the parents of 4 children; Dalonna Kendall and husband Michael, Todd Nickel and wife Julie, Melinda Armstrong, and Tracy Nickel and wife Michelle.
He was the loving grandfather to Aaron (Nichole) Kendall, Jason (Kelsey) Kendall, Jennifer (Dan) Baumberger, Sarah (Dustin) Lawler, Trevor (Taylor) Nickel, Jessica Dierkes (Raustin Zahradka), Lauren (Dylan) Street, Alexandria Nickel, Cameron Nickel, Preston (Zoe) Huyghe, Austin Huyghe, Chase Hammond, and Nick Hammond. He was the great-grandfather of 18: Easton, Noah, Jordan, Jonah, Theodore, Kendall, Nathaniel, Drake, Eli, Elizabeth, Liam, Avree, Viviann, Ellie, Henry, Bryce, Ayla and Ace.
Dallas is survived by sisters Ada Lavin, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Mary Alice Phillips, Springfield, Illinois and sister-in-law Becky Nickel, Edinburg, Illinois.
Dallas grew up in Waggoner, Illinois, attended the local schools and graduated from Farmersville, Illinois High School. He attended Lincoln Bible Institute, Lincoln, Illinois and Dallas became a life-long minister.
Dallas and Donna traveled around to many churches. One of his first churches was in Keyesport, Illinois where he started at the age of 19 years old. His first full time church was in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma. Dallas served churches in Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma and Indiana. He also served as manager of Bond Christian Service Camp in Mulberry Grove for 15 years.
Dallas’ greatest loves were God, Donna, his children and grandchildren. He found much joy in preaching the gospel. Dallas exemplified Christ in every facet of his life. He was a faithful servant and loved all unconditionally. Dallas enjoyed fishing and God’s creation.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 1 p.m. at the Greenville First Christian Church. Interment will follow in Seagraves Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or Bond Christian Service Camp.
