Dallas M. Burke, 90, died surrounded by her family at 3:07 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2017 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. She was born November 9, 1926 in Germantown, WI the daughter of Adolph and Beulah (Lied) Strack. She graduated from the Cadet program at the St. Joseph School of Nursing and was the school nurse at Western Military Academy in Alton for a short time. Dallas co-owned and operated Burke Funeral Home in Alton and Grafton for many years with her husband. Dallas was the first female coroner elected in the state of Illinois, serving from 1972 until her retirement in 2000. In 2002 Dallas was awarded the YWCA Woman of Distinction Award. On June 25, 1948 in Alton she married Thomas J.” Bud” Burke Jr. and he preceded her in death on May 28, 1972. Surviving are three daughters; Debby Lambert (Marc) of Godfrey, Sandy Moehn (Nick) of Alton, Pam Burke-O’Boyle of Alton and one son; Shaun Burke of Godfrey, thirteen grandchildren; Jamie Lambert (Sean VanMeter), Jeremy “Bo” Lambert (Roo), Shane Lambert (Katelyn Burns), Jodie Thomeczek (Danny), Geoffrey Moehn, Marcie Boyce (Dan), Niki Jo Elliott (Jeremy), Molly McAfoos (Robert), Niles Moehn, Amber O’Boyle, Marissa O’Boyle, Shealor O’Boyle, and Trevor O’Boyle, and twelve great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son; Thomas J. “T J” Burke III. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. -8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 30, 2017 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A mass of Christian burial will be on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton with Father John Paul Klein officiating. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic School or Alton Symphony Orchestra.
