Dale Henderson

Dale Alan Henderson, 70, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, surrounded by his wife and children. Born on December 7, 1955 in Alton, Illinois, Dale was a lifelong resident of the area, deeply rooted in the community he loved.

Dale left behind his devoted wife; Patricia (Endraske) Henderson of Alton (married June 1, 2025), his children; Nathan (Amanda) Henderson of Troy, Carrie (Luis) Rodriguez of Alton, Anne (Joesph) Kessler of Des Peres, MO, Jennifer Henderson of Pocahontas, and his grandchildren; Dane and Delaney Henderson, Mercedes (Kyle) Morris, and Madelyn Kessler. He also loved and was loved by Patricia’s family; children Paula (John) Knoll, Jamie (Mike) Jackson, grandchildren Tim (Kendra), Tyson (Sarah), Noah, and great nephew Luke.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Kim Adler, his parents, Carl and Barbara Henderson, and his beloved first wife of over 40 years, Kathleen (Woelfel) Henderson.

Dale worked for Illinois Power/Dynegy for over 30 years, retiring as a Control Room Operator. While he was highly respected for his commitment to safety, he was just as well-known for the camaraderie and lighthearted pranks he shared with his colleagues. Retirement only amplified his playful spirit when he stepped into the role of Santa Claus… a calling he adored and took very seriously. He warmed the hearts of countless families through his jolly persona.

Dale brought an undeniable magic wherever he went. His enthusiasm for life was contagious, and he had a rare gift for making everyone feel valued. Dale poured his heart into his community - volunteering at Helping Hands of SS Peter & Paul, cooking delicious meals for his church community, guiding youth through the Boy Scouts, and acting as a surrogate father and grandfather to many. He also loved a tune and was a regular shanty singer at Morrison's Irish Pub. Dale never met a stranger; he was always ready with a neighborly hand, a warm conversation, or a bright smile. While the world feels a bit dimmer without him, his legacy of laughter, unwavering kindness, and community spirit will continue to inspire everyone who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 25th, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, June 26th, 2026 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton. Father Jeff Holtman will officiate.

Burial will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Godfrey at a later date.

Dale’s family extends their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. While he may no longer be with us, his spirit endures, lighting the way for those who were lucky enough to call him family and friend.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dale's honor to Helping Hands of SS Peter & Paul, reflecting his lifelong commitment to giving back to the community.
