Curtis Clark

Curtis D. Clark, 84, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024, at his residence.

He was born on December 9, 1940, in Switchback, West Virginia, the son of Carl Edwin and Edna Elizabeth (Cooney) Clark. On September 5, 1964, in Kincaid, IL, Curtis wed his beloved Julia Nadine Lewis. After sixty years of marriage the loving couple could still be caught stealing kisses and holding hands.

Curtis was a devoted family man who continually opened his heart and home to any and all in need. Nothing made him happier than spending time with his wife, Nadine, his family and friends. He was known for his gentle kindness, remarkable memory, constant eagerness to help others, and love of sports. He leaves behind a legacy of commitment to his church and family, hard work, and compassion for others.

Curtis worked for Peabody Coal Company at mine #10 before his retirement. He was a member of First Family Church of East Alton. Curtis was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan who first found his love for the game back in the 1950s. It was during this time that he was in person to witness history when his hero, Stan Musial hit 5 home runs during a double-header.

Curtis' passion for sports wasn't just as a fan. He played an instrumental role in his community, serving as President of both the Pawnee Schools Sports Boosters and Pawnee Youth Baseball. He was a dedicated youth baseball coach and youth activities advocate.

Along with his wife, Nadine, he is survived by his children, Curtis (Lisa) Clark, James (Amy) Clark, Elizabeth (Jorge Salgueiro) Clark, Ed Clark, Steve Clark, and Cory (Molly) Clark; a sister, Nancy Roggero; a brother, Greg Clark; nine grandchildren, Curtis, Natalie, Katie, Ashley, Daisy, Maddie, Carter, Colby, and Morgan; and three great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Rocky, and Evie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Carl Edwin Clark Jr. and Robert Clark.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 11 a.m. until time of memorial service at 12 p.m., at First Family Church of East Alton, Pastor Randy Volmar will officiate.
