GODFREY – Cristopher Gene Brinkman, 52, died at 2:20 p.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at his home in Godfrey under the excellent care of BJC Hospice, Nurse Chonna.
He was born in Jersey County on December 2, 1963, to the late Narvin “Gene” and Judith Ellen (Hays) Brinkman, and graduated with the class of 1982 from Jersey Community High School.
Cris went on to attend Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville where he studied Business Management. In time, with his best friend and love of his life, Kim, the two purchased Sunset Bar & Grill in Godfrey which they owned and operated for the past 16 years and were blessed with many lasting friendships.
He loved music and was an accomplished musician, playing in many Rock & Roll Bands. Cris favored his time spent with his friends watching Jeopardy, he was also an adventurous man who loved spending time outdoors – whether it was golfing, boating or just exploring nature, he enjoyed it all – especially their times spent together in Gulf Shores, AL.
Surviving is his fiancé, Kim Gibson of Godfrey; a daughter and son-in-law, Ashlie & Don Presson of Godfrey; his step-daughter and her husband, Nicole & Cory Hudson, also of Godfrey; four grandchildren Savannah & Keeghan Thomas and Bryan & Koby Hudson; a brother and sister-in-law, Jeff & Karen Brinkman of Jerseyville; a sister, Amy Schaake of Jerseyville; and a very special aunt, June McIver of Jerseyville; along with numerous nieces, nephews and many many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Ethel Daisy Hays.
Cris will be remembered by his friends and family as an outgoing man with a warm and giving heart. He was a true lover of LIFE - he loved his work, he loved his friends, and above all, he loved his family.
Per his wishes, he will be laid to rest at the Noble Cemetery in Otterville during a private family ceremony.
Friends and family are invited to Share their stories, celebrate the memories and Honor the life of Cris on Monday, April 11, 2016 beginning at 3 p.m. at Sunset Bar & Grill in Godfrey.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to either BJC Hospice or to the American Cancer Society in care of Crawford Funeral Home. Memorial cards will also be available during the Celebration of Life.
