Courtney Littell

Courtney Elise Littell, having always been an adventurer and traveler, has gone exploring beyond the veil on Wednesday (Nov. 22, 2017) at age 22. There will be a visitation at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, 1115 E. Washington St., Bloomington on Wednesday from to 7 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life service.
Courtney was active and influential in everything she did. Most recently, she applied her gifts to the theater department as a student and leader at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. Her love to be creative and write made her well recognized within the English department. Others at SIUE would recognize her from her participation in ELLA, ROTC, D&D club, and GSA.
Courtney was born and grew up in Bloomington. She attended Danvers and Oakdale grade schools, Kingsley Junior High and Normal Community West High School. At Kingsley, she participated in track, choir and band. At Normal Community West, she was on the swim team. She participated in the Ultimate Frisbee League and the Outdoor Adventure Club. Her greatest passion was band and marching band. She never did anything in half measures. If she was going to be part of something she put all of herself into it.

Courtney was preceded in death by her grandparents, Larry Littell and Eva, and Charles Barekman.
She is survived by her parents, Louis (Joanne) Littell and Becky (Greg) Thoms; her sisters Lyndisty Littell, Whitney Thoms, and Allie Thoms; her niece, Elia, and her brother, JT Thoms; her grandparents, Nancy Littell and Mike (Jeanette) Thoms, and Rocky (Mary Ann) Benedetto; her uncles Gary (Deanna) and Erik (Ann) Littell and Mark Barekman, Morris Barekman, and Garren (Carol) Barekman;, and her best friend, Sam Hinshaw.
In Courtney’s last weeks, she experienced great joy with her dog Zula, who is traveling with her. Her family is asking that in lieu of flowers, you make a donation to the group that connected Courtney with Zula, Five A’s Humane Society, 4530 N Alby St, Godfrey, Ill., 62035.

Above is a list of facts that describe Courtney’s life but doesn’t come close to expressing who Courtney was. It can’t convey her energy, her smile, or her compassion. Her family is also asking that you bring and share stories of Courtney, either written or oral. We can’t hear these stories from her anymore.
Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.
