Colleen Winders Green, 87, died Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Christian Hospital North East in St. Louis, MO. She was born December 5, 1930 in Salem, IL the daughter of Daniel Orval and Mary Isabel (Cole) Winders. She was a communications specialist with Jefferson Smurfit for many years. Colleen was a volunteer for the Godfrey Khoury League, Heritage Days, Jobs daughter, Girl Scouts and the White Cross Auxiliary at Alton Memorial Hospital. She helped operate All Gods Children Shall Have Shoes and was voted Woman of Distinction in 2015. On October 16, 1951 in Salem, IL she married Ford J. Green and he survives. Also surviving are four children, Lisa Huber (Kirk) of Brighton, Ellen Sowders (John) of Godfrey, Julia Jeffreys (Chris) of Brighton and John Green (Terrah) of Godfrey, eleven grandchildren, Kate Riney (Dennis Ellis), Andrew Huber, Matt Witt (Karin), Chris Witt, Logan Sowders, Amanda McDonald, Nick Schaper, Ryan Jeffreys, Jeremy Jeffreys, Alexi Green and Michael Green, and fifteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Olin Winders and infant brother Harold and one infant sister, Hazel. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of memorial service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Tim Sandifer will officiate. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to All Gods Children Shall Have Shoes or to Godfrey Parks & Recreation “memorial benches” or “memorial trees”.
