Coleen McCleland

Coleen Alice McCleland, 84, passed away at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.

Born Aug. 10, 1932 in Parke County, Indiana, she was a daughter of George W. and Bernice (Baker) Tappy.

She married Linuel Claude McCleland on Feb. 28, 1953 in Wood River.  He passed away Sept. 6, 1998.

She and her husband owned Chico’s Lounge for over 40 years. Prior to that, she had worked at Owens-Illinois Glass and in the office of dentist Harold Hudson.  She was a wonderful mother and enjoyed cooking for and spending time with her kids and grandkids.

She is survived by a son, Mark (Debora) McCleland of Wood River; three daughters, Claudia (David) Sever of Edwardsville, Danna Jennings of Pasadena, Tex.; and Paula (Eric) Warwick of Wood River; 13 grandchildren, Damon McCleland, Tara Begley, Andrea and Carly McCleland, Brooke Hasquin, Lauren Ward, Bryce, Cory and Amanda Sever, Casey and Clint Jennings, and Mason and Samantha Warwick; 10 great grandchildren; a sister, Madeline Bradstreet of East Alton; 2 sisters-in-law, Joyce Tappy and Barbara Smith of East Alton; and 2 brothers-in-law, Marion Garrigus of Wood River and Morgan Scott McCleland of Chapel Hill, FL.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Kay Garrigus and Marveline Knipping; a brother, George R. Tappy; and two brothers-in-law, E.G. Bradstreet and Robert Knipping.

Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Apr. 9 at Paynic Home for Funerals, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Apr. 10.

Burial will follow at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or the Alzheimer’s Association.
